SASSA Gold Cards to Be Deactivated by 20 March 2025: Beneficiaries Urged to Switch to Postbank Black Card

By: Saneliso Mlambo
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced that all SASSA Gold Cards will be deactivated on 20 March 2025, regardless of their printed expiry dates. To ensure uninterrupted access to your social grant payments, it is essential to replace your SASSA Gold Card with the new Postbank Black Card before this deadline.
If you do not switch to the Postbank Black Card by 20 March 2025, your grants will still be paid; however, you will need to visit your nearest Post Office branch to access your funds.
To obtain your new Postbank Black Card, visit your nearest Checkers, Shoprite, Pick ’n Pay, Usave, or Boxer store. You will need to present a valid South African ID or temporary ID. No additional paperwork is required, and the card will be activated immediately, allowing you to use it right away.
Postbank and SASSA are working together to add more staff and collaborate with retailers to increase the number of card replacement sites across the country. Mobile offices will also be dispatched to rural areas to assist as many beneficiaries as possible.
For more information or assistance, please contact Postbank’s dedicated customer support team. Ensure you have your ID and any necessary documents ready when reaching out for help.
