MultiChoice South Africa has unveiled price increases for its DStv subscription packages, effective April 1, 2025. The new pricing structure, which affects several packages, is driven by rising operational costs and the depreciation of the South African Rand.

The revised prices are as follows:

• DStv Premium: R979 (up from R929)

• DStv Compact Plus: R679 (up from R619)

• DStv Compact: R499 (up from R469)

• DStv Family: R349 (up from R329)

• DStv Access: R149 (up from R139)

In response to these changes, MultiChoice is offering a “price lock” option, allowing subscribers to freeze their rates for up to 24 months. The company also noted that a potential VAT increase from 15% to 15.5% on May 1, 2025, could lead to additional price adjustments, with subscribers being notified in April.

MultiChoice cited the weakening Rand and escalating production and infrastructure costs as key factors driving the price hikes. Despite growing competition from streaming services, the company asserts that the adjustments are necessary to maintain access to premium content and ensure service quality.

Subscribers are encouraged to review their packages and consider the price lock option to manage costs more effectively.
