President Cyril Ramaphosa has accepted Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Andrea Johnson’s request to vacate office with immediate effect, ending her tenure at the country’s key anti-corruption body. The Presidency confirmed the decision on Monday, marking a significant leadership change for the directorate.
Johnson, who headed the IDAC within the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), requested to leave office with immediate effect. President Ramaphosa accepted the request, although the Presidency has not yet publicly outlined the reasons for her departure. It also remains unclear who will serve in the position on an acting basis.
The announcement comes at a time when the IDAC has been under intense public scrutiny. The directorate has featured prominently in the ongoing Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where testimony has raised questions about aspects of its operations, leadership and internal processes.
Johnson recently testified before the commission, where she responded to questions relating to the directorate’s work and staffing. Her evidence formed part of broader hearings examining issues linked to law enforcement and anti-corruption institutions.
The Presidency is expected to announce interim leadership arrangements and the process to appoint a new head of the IDAC in due course.
