Johannesburg, South Africa – South African police chief, General Fannie Masemola, has revealed that businessman Sphamandla Mabonga, who was tragically shot and killed at a Sandton nightclub recently, had been banned from the popular Solo nightclub. This information surfaced as part of ongoing investigations into the events leading to Mabonga’s death.
Police revealed that Mabonga had a history of violence, including a previous arrest for a shooting at another Sandton nightclub in 2024.
“This figure was out on bail for such similar cases of attempted murder in some of those clubs,” said Masemola.
“There are a number of cases that he was out on bail for. So, as you know, we arrest; we do our best to oppose bail, but at the end of the day, we cannot guarantee we keep someone inside.”
Masemola stated that authorities were looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting and noted that Mabonga had faced restrictions at the nightclub prior to the incident.
Mabonga, who was known for his connections to the entertainment industry and was the former lover of musician Londie London, was involved in a deadly shootout outside the venue.
The police are continuing to probe whether the ban and any potential disputes related to it were connected to his murder. Investigations are still in the early stages, and law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
