The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has dropped a massive political bombshell by issuing an aggressive, public media statement that effectively orders high-profile MP Mzwanele Manyi to shut up and stay completely silent until he is officially cleared to talk. The public reprimand, signed by National Spokesperson Sifiso Mahlangu, strips the veteran communicator of his media powers after accusing him of running rogue and conducting “unauthorised interviews” in the party’s name.
The public nature of this mandate is being viewed as a calculated, deliberate display of centralized power. Under the strict new orders from the party’s Strategic Presidential Team, Manyi is now under a total, iron-clad media lockdown. He has been explicitly banned from making any public statements or even answering quick questions during casual parliamentary “doorstop interviews” unless he gets prior, express clearance from designated party gatekeepers.
This tightening of the leash has set the internet on fire and triggered an intense national debate over the internal stability of South Africa’s official opposition. Defenders of the lockdown argue that the MK Party is doing what is necessary to survive, enforcing absolute discipline on its heavy-hitting politicians to prevent mixed messages, policy contradictions, and public factional wars.
The party requested that Manyi immediately stop engaging with the media without authorisation and comply with its communication protocols. No disciplinary action was announced in the statement, and Manyi had not publicly responded at the time of publication.
