Shoprite Holdings has announced a 9.4% increase in its revenue for the six months ending December 2024, reaching R130.8 billion. The retailer, South Africa’s largest supermarket chain, saw significant growth driven by strong performance in both local and international markets.
The core division experienced a 10.4% increase in sales, with like-for-like sales growing by 6.1%.
Shoprite’s supermarkets across nine African countries grew by 4.1%.
During the Christmas and Black Friday period, the group reported an 8.7% sales increase, reflecting heightened consumer demand.
These results reflect Shoprite’s robust performance during a challenging economic environment, driven by strategic efforts to cater to both higher-income and discount shoppers.
The retailer continues to maintain its dominant position in the South African market while expanding its footprint across Africa.
