Pitso ‘Jingles’ Mosimane is set to return as Bafana Bafana coach after SAFA approved his appointment. Mosimane will replace Hugo Broos following the Belgian’s five-year tenure.
The decision marks a major change for South Africa’s national football team. Mosimane previously coached Bafana between 2010 and 2012.
SAFA’s decision brings an experienced African coach back to the national team. Mosimane has built a strong reputation since leaving the Bafana job.
His biggest achievements came with Egyptian giants Al Ahly. He guided the club to back-to-back CAF Champions League titles. He became the first South African coach to win the competition. His continental experience strengthened his case for another national-team opportunity.
Mosimane inherits a Bafana squad that has made significant progress under Broos. Mosimane will now face pressure to maintain that progress.
His appointment also raises expectations ahead of South Africa’s next international campaigns.
