Pediatric surgeon Peter Beale, who was recently acquitted of charges including murder, culpable homicide, and fraud linked to the deaths of three children during surgeries, is now facing further scrutiny from the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
Despite being cleared in court, the HPCSA will review the case to determine whether Beale should be reinstated to practice medicine.
Beale’s case dates back to 2019 when he was arrested after the deaths of three young patients following surgeries. The HPCSA had previously revoked his medical license in 2022 due to concerns over his medical practices.
The surgeon had also faced accusations of performing risky procedures contrary to medical advice and engaging in financial misconduct.
Although Beale has been acquitted of the charges in the court of law, the HPCSA’s decision on his fitness to practice will be based on their professional standards and ethical considerations.
The council’s review will determine whether Beale can resume his career in the medical field.
