Johannesburg, South Africa – The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) has unveiled a 13-point plan aimed at helping the South African government address its R58 billion budget shortfall. The proposal outlines key strategies that could save billions and promote greater fiscal responsibility.
OUTA, a non-governmental organization known for advocating transparency in public spending, believes the plan can significantly reduce wasteful expenditure and improve government financial management.
The main components of the plan include Tax compliance improvements , reducing government waste , reforming State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and transparent Public Procurement.
OUTA estimates that implementing these strategies could potentially cover the R58 billion budget gap, ensuring long-term fiscal sustainability for South Africa.
The government has expressed interest in OUTA’s proposal and is currently engaging with the organization to assess the feasibility of the suggested reforms. If successful, these measures could not only help bridge the current shortfall but also establish better financial practices in the public sector.
This collaborative effort between OUTA and the government highlights the importance of innovative solutions in overcoming South Africa’s economic challenges.
