Alleged crime boss and businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala returns to the witness stand at the Madlanga Commission today to face intense questioning about police corruption.
The high profile witness is scheduled to give his testimony over the next two days. Investigators want him to fill in missing details from his earlier written statements. Most notably, he is being pushed to name several senior police officials who were allegedly on his payroll.
The inquiry is also looking closely at Matlala’s connection to a suspicious 228 million rand police health services contract.
Despite his many legal troubles, Matlala has firmly denied having any personal relationship or direct dealings with Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
Matlala is currently being held in a maximum-security prison. Outside of this commission, he still faces major criminal charges of money laundering and attempted murder.
