Indian Wells, March 2025 – Novak Djokovic’s early exit from the 2025 Indian Wells Masters has raised questions about his current form and potential future in the ATP rankings.
The Serbian tennis legend was stunned in the second round by world No. 85 Botic van de Zandschulp, who defeated him 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. This loss comes after a series of disappointing results, including early exits at the Australian Open and the Qatar Open.
Djokovic’s defeat marks his third consecutive early elimination, a rare occurrence in his illustrious career, drawing comparisons to his form from several years ago.
The loss has led to growing concerns that Djokovic, who has dominated the ATP tour for much of the last decade, could fall out of the top 10 in the rankings for the first time in years.
In addition to his recent struggles on the court, Djokovic has been dealing with physical challenges, including a muscle tear, which has hindered his performance and recovery. These ongoing issues have raised doubts about his ability to return to his best form in the upcoming months.
To help address his slump, Djokovic has turned to his longtime rival, Andy Murray, for support. The two have forged a coaching partnership in an attempt to rejuvenate Djokovic’s game and provide guidance as he prepares for the next major tournaments, including the Miami Open later this month.
With his status as a top-ranked player at risk, Djokovic will need to overcome both physical and mental hurdles to reclaim his place among the sport’s elite. Fans and analysts will be closely watching how he performs in the coming weeks, as he faces an uphill battle to restore his dominance in the tennis world.
