Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla returns to the Durban High Court on Thursday. The former MK Party MP and daughter of former President Jacob Zuma faces charges of incitement to commit terrorism and public violence.
The charges concern social media posts prosecutors say she made during July 2021. The State alleges those posts encouraged violence after Jacob Zuma’s imprisonment.
The prosecution focuses on messages she allegedly shared online. The State says her posts supported calls linked to the unrest. Prosecutors argue those messages encouraged others to participate in violence.
One focus of the case involves her posts saying “We See You”. The State argues those messages contributed to the unrest and its escalation.
The violence caused widespread looting and destruction across KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng. More than 350 people died during the unrest, according to court reporting.
Zuma-Sambudla has pleaded not guilty to the charges against her. Her defence disputes the State’s interpretation of her social media posts.
The Durban High Court will continue hearing evidence in the case. The State must prove that her alleged conduct amounted to criminal incitement.
