Nota Baloyi has apologised to Black Coffee and retracted allegations made against him.
Baloyi, a South African music executive and outspoken entertainment commentator published the apology on X on Monday, August 10, 2026, addressing Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo directly.
Baloyi wrote that between September and November 2025, he published several posts about Black Coffee.
“In the Posts, I accused and insinuated that Mr. Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, also known as Black Coffee, was guilty of bribery, corruption, assault & general criminal activity,” he wrote.
He then acknowledged that he had no basis for making those allegations.
“There was no valid basis for me to make the Allegations,” Baloyi wrote.
He explicitly admitted that the allegations were false and defamatory.
“The Allegations are false, and defamatory,” he stated.
Baloyi then formally withdrew the claims and apologised to the Grammy-winning producer.
“I hereby retract the Posts and unreservedly apologise to Mr. Maphumulo for the harm the Posts caused,” he wrote.
Nota is known for his strong views on the local music industry and frequent public clashes with prominent artists and industry figures.
The apology follows a legal battle between Baloyi and Black Coffee over the disputed publications.
The Johannesburg High Court previously ordered Baloyi to remove the posts and issue a public retraction.
Baloyi removed the posts but resisted the requirement to apologise, leading to further contempt proceedings.
His latest X statement now formally retracts the allegations and apologises to Black Coffee.
Black Coffee has not yet publicly responded to Baloyi’s apology.
