Popular Maskandi artist Scebi Dlamini, known as Inkosi Yamagcokama, has died in a crash.

Dlamini died on Sunday morning, August 9, after a collision in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. The crash happened at the traffic lights opposite Melomed Hospital.

The Road Traffic Inspectorate confirmed Dlamini suffered severe injuries and died at the scene. Emergency teams, Umhlathuze Traffic and police responded to the crash.

Dlamini was reportedly travelling to an event when the fatal collision occurred. The SAPS Accident Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Three other occupants were taken to hospital after the collision. One later died, while two others remained under medical care.

KwaZulu-Natal officials have since joined Maskandi fans in mourning Dlamini’s death. MEC Siboniso Duma described him as an invaluable asset to the nation.

Dlamini was from Msinga and was widely respected for his contribution to Maskandi music. Officials also credited him with helping put Msinga on the map.

His death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from fans and fellow musicians. Dlamini leaves behind a growing musical legacy within South Africa’s Maskandi community.
