AmaGlug-glug coach David Notoate pointed the blame finger to his defence following the 4-3 loss to France at the Tokyo Olympic Games match on Sunday.
The 52 years old coach blamed his defence for failing to stick on their game plan.
The match was goalless at half-time, but South Africa took the lead in the 53rd minute through Kobamelo Kodisang. The South Africans led the match on three occasions but surrendered the lead each time‚ eventually losing 4-3 in referee’s optional time.
“It was a difficult game‚ an exciting game, an emotional game‚” he said.
“We went for it‚ they also came for it‚ and I think at the end‚ it was a game of margins of error.”
“We made more mistakes in our defensive actions than France,” he added.
SA are bottom of the table in Group A and will have to beat Mexico on Wednesday, 28 July at 13:30 SA time to have any chance of progressing to the quarter-finals.
