National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader and Member of Parliament Fadiel Adams has been suspended from Parliament for 20 days under the Powers, Privileges and Immunities of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures Act.
Committee Secretary Thembinkosi Ngoma confirmed the suspension during committee proceedings on Wednesday, telling members that Adams had been suspended with effect from Monday, 3 August. He said the MP would not participate in committee meetings until the suspension expires.
“The NCC member has been suspended for 20 days, with effect from the 3rd of August. So, he is not on the platform, and he will only be joining the committee once the suspension is lifted,” Ngoma said.
Ngoma did not provide any details about the reasons for the suspension, and committee members were not informed of the circumstances that led to the disciplinary action.
The suspension was imposed under the Powers, Privileges and Immunities of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures Act, which governs the conduct of Members of Parliament and sets out Parliament’s disciplinary powers.
It remains unclear whether Parliament will release further details on the decision or whether Adams intends to challenge the suspension. The NCC leader is expected to resume his parliamentary duties once the 20-day suspension comes to an end.
