In a surprising move, Sekhukhune United Football Club has terminated the contract of head coach Lehlohonolo Seema just two days before their Nedbank Cup quarter-final match against Mamelodi Sundowns. The decision was announced on Thursday evening, with immediate effect.
Seema, who joined Sekhukhune United in mid-2024, had guided the team to a commendable fourth-place position in the league, level on points with Stellenbosch FC. His sudden departure has raised eyebrows, especially considering the team’s upcoming high-stakes match.
Prior to his tenure at Sekhukhune United, Seema’s coaching career included stints with Golden Arrows and Chippa United, where he faced similar challenges. At Chippa United, despite steering the team away from relegation, Seema was dismissed, leading to expressions of disappointment regarding his treatment.
Sekhukhune United’s general manager, Phineas Masisha, had previously dismissed rumors about Seema’s job security. However, internal sources suggest that Seema’s recent request for a salary increase, following the team’s strong performance, was denied and may have contributed to the decision.
As Sekhukhune United prepares for their upcoming match against Mamelodi Sundowns, the team will be under the temporary guidance of experienced figures, including Tembo and Masehe. The club has yet to announce plans for appointing a permanent head coach.
