Former ‘Isidingo’ actor Darlington ‘Papa G’ Michaels died on Friday, 13 September.
Papa G’s death was confirmed in a statement by the SABC paying tribute to the veteran thespian.
Michaels career began on stage under Gibson Kente, in the early 90s before joining the SABC 3 sopie “Isidingo-The need” in 1997, as Papa G.
Papa G was well known for his Tsotsi taal which is a mixture of Afrikaans and township language, and his vintage gangster dress code of silk colorful shirts and rings.
He suffered a stroke in 2016, which forced him to take a break from big screens, before his come back in 2020 on Mzansi Magic’s “Vula Vala” drama series.
Tributes for the actor have been pouring in since news of his death broke Friday night.
Actor Space on instagram penned a very touching tribute to Michaels.

Papa G will be remembered as a great legendary actor who left an incredible mark on South African television.
