The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will enter a seven-day recess from September 3 to September 11, 2026, to accommodate prior commitments made by its panel members.
Jeremy Michaels, the spokesperson for the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System, announced the temporary pause in an official statement released today, August 31, 2026. Due to the upcoming break, the final day of public hearings for this week will take place on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
According to Michaels, the recess is necessary to allow two of the commissioners to honor external obligations. These commitments were originally scheduled at a time when the inquiry was expected to complete its entire mandate by August 31, 2026. However, because the commission’s operational deadline has since been extended, a scheduling conflict arose that required this brief pause.
The break will not stop all operations, as the commission’s senior functionaries and extended legal teams will continue to work behind the scenes throughout the recess.
This period will be used to analyze evidence and prepare for the next phase of the investigation. Following the seven-working-day hiatus, public hearings are scheduled to resume on Monday, September 14, 2026.
