Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala will testify before the Madlanga Commission on Monday, August 17.
Matlala was previously scheduled to testify on September 1. The commission has now suddenly brought his appearance forward to August 17 and 18.
The unexpected change means Matlala will face commissioners more than two weeks earlier. The commission has not publicly explained why his testimony was moved.
His appearance was previously postponed following legal objections linked to his pending criminal case. His lawyers had raised concerns about the possible impact of commission questioning on those proceedings.
Matlala will now have an opportunity to respond directly to evidence already presented against him. His two-day appearance could bring answers to several questions raised during the inquiry.
Matlala’s evidence is expected to address allegations raised during earlier hearings. These include claims involving senior police officials, alleged criminal networks and the controversial Medicare24 contract.
