Maskandi artists gathered in uMsinga on Saturday to honour late star Scebi Dlamini. Dlamini, known as Inkosi Yamagcokama, died in a Richards Bay crash. The 29-year-old musician was travelling when the crash claimed his life. His funeral service is being held at Mzisho Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal.
Fellow musicians joined Dlamini’s family, friends and supporters for his final farewell. The gathering has brought together major names from South Africa’s Maskandi scene. Artists have travelled to uMsinga to remember the young musician.
Dlamini’s colleague Sipho “Gupta” Mchunu also died in the same crash. Mchunu was buried on Friday before Dlamini’s funeral. Their deaths have left the Maskandi community mourning two musicians.
At the funeral, artists reflected on Dlamini’s contribution to Maskandi music. Women’s Maskandi group Imithente leader Wezi Mthalane also paid tribute. She described his death as another painful loss for young musicians.
KwaZulu-Natal Arts and Culture MEC Mntomuhle Khawula attended the funeral service. Khawula highlighted Dlamini’s contribution to the province’s music industry.
Dlamini’s final farewell has brought the Maskandi fraternity together in uMsinga. Musicians, fans and community members gathered to honour his short career. His family will now lay the young artist to rest at home.
