Fadiel Adams is appearing in Pinetown Magistrates’ Court over five charges today. The National Coloured Congress leader faces three fraud charges and two charges of defeating the ends of justice.
The charges relate to Adams’ alleged access to Westville Correctional Centre. The State alleges he misrepresented himself to gain access to the prison.
Adams allegedly conducted secret interviews with inmates connected to the 2017 Sandiso Magaqa murder. The state claim he later used those recordings to implicate senior police officials, including Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo..
The State alleges Adams’ actions interfered with police investigations into the case. Adams has denied the allegations against him.
Adams was arrested in Cape Town in May and granted R10,000 bail by the Pinetown Magistrates Court. He was ordered to return to court on August 14.
